Thanks to NASPD President Geigis for reporting this in her monthly newsletter.

NASPD’S LEADERSHIP IN PROMOTING THE LAND AND WATER CONSERVATIONFUND (LWCF)
LWCF Denver Summit Update:Domenic Bravo (WY), Bill Bryan(MO) and Tom Wolfe (DC Rep)
have been busy coordinating theLWCF Summit to be held in Denver,
CO on April 11-12. The Summit, sponsored by NASPD and NASORLO, with support
from NRPA, SORP, NPS and OIA, follows the NPS’s LWCF training and will involve
representatives from local, state and national government as well as other organizations
that support this critical funding. The Summit will celebrate LWCF projects since the
fund was created 50 years ago and will energize support for reauthorization of LWCF for
the next 50 years.
The Board met with NRPA Executive Director Barbara Tulipane in Washington, DC who
has stood with NASPD in ongoing LWCF discussions. NASPD and NRPA maintain our
position for full reauthorization as well as equity for stateside funding. We’ll send out
more information following the Summit.
Henry Diamond – Meeting a Man Who Made History
The NASPD Board met with the accomplished Henry Diamond tolearn about the history of LWCF
and gain support for our reauthorization and stateside equity efforts. Henry was an
original principal involved in the publication of the Outdoor Recreation Resources Review
Commission Report and instrumental in getting LWCF passed. We thanked him for his
leadership that has resulted in millions of dollars spent to create places all over the
country for families to recreate.
Reading from a copy of the original report, Henry stated that the drafters recognized that
the states were in the best position to administer the LWCF funds. Such confirmation
underscores NASPD’s long-standing position of seeking stateside equity.

NEW CHAIRPERSONS FOR LEGISLATIVE AND COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEES
Bill Bryan (MO) is the new Chair of the Legislative Committee. Many thanks to Chas
Van Genderen (MT) for his dedicated service as the previous Chair. Bill jumped right
into his new duties by working on the Summit and attending the mid-year Board meeting
at Mason Neck.
Nancy Merrill (ID) is the new Chair of the Communications and Research Committee,
taking over for Bill Bryan who had assumed this position since our annual conference in
September. Nancy is eager to hear your ideas about ways to improve the NASPD
website so it is most beneficial to our membership.
