City Park Alliance Praises Mayors for LWCF support
Dallas, TX – The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) today approved a new resolution that supports reauthorization and full funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). The resolution passed unanimously at the USCM annual meeting in Dallas, TX. Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, co-chair of the Mayors for Parks coalition, presented the resolution.
Catherine Nagel, City Parks Alliance’s Executive Director, praised the mayors for their full support of the resolution. “The approval of the resolution by mayors demonstrates the broad support LWCF enjoys across the country. Mayors know the critical role that parks play in improving the health and vitality of their cities and surrounding regions and understand that LWCF is an important source of funding to protect and enhance urban green space.”
The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a vital source of funding for local governments to create and protect green spaces in urban and metropolitan areas. The LWCF is set to expire on September 30, 2015. President Obama recently called on Congress to fully fund the legislation as part of the 2015 budget, and the mayors’ resolution joined the president and other supporters, including Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, in speaking out strongly in support of reauthorizing the LWCF.
Mayors for Parks, a project of City Parks Alliance, was launched in December 2013. The bipartisan coalition supports reauthorization and full funding of LWCF.
